Wildlife Cupcakes

My mom's going to South Africa for a business trip/vacation tomorrow. She's always traveling for work but never this far and for this long. So, my sisters and I made her a surprise bon voyage present.

Theme desserts are always fun to make! I always enjoy the whole process from conceptualizing to planning to executing. For this event, of course, we had to make safari cupcakes!

Of course, there are apparently no tigers in South Africa. Oh, I totally knew that.

Animal Print Fondant

To make the animal print fondant (e.g. zebra), roll out the base fondant (white) thicker than needed. Create the pattern by cutting the black fondant in strips and putting it on top of the base fondant. Do not use water to stick the fondants together as the black fondant may bleed and smudge. When you are happy with the pattern, roll the patterned fondant with a rolling pin. Use a round cookie cutter to cut them out. Brush with vodka then let dry for at least at least 6 hours.
